This Kit includes all parts needed for converting the cam follower type High-Pressure Fuel Pump to a roller follower kit just like the newer EA888 TSI engines. It is common for the 2.0 TFSI EA113 engine to have excessive wear in the cam follower which touches the camshaft lobe.
If the cam follower wears all the way through, excessive damage can be caused to the engine and intake camshaft. This conversion protects against this problem, and ensures the reliability and smooth operation of your high-pressure fuel pump, without the need of replacing the cam follower again.
In addition, the fuel pump flow capability is improved by increasing the effective stroke by 28% (or 18.5% in CDL engines).
Warning: The installation of this kit requires machining of the high-pressure fuel pump cover to fit the roller kit conversion. In addition, removal of the cam lobe that drives the pump and pressing the new lobe in the same orientation is required.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The first VW engine with direct injection was designed for low power usage; however, its development was not improved. At higher power levels, increasing fuel pressure is necessary to overcome the pressure inside the combustion chamber for a homogeneous fuel dispersion.
A major drawback of the EA113 2.0L TFSI engine's fuel system is that as fuel pressure increases through ECU tuning (remapping), the high-pressure mechanical pump, which operates with the camshaft, relies on sliding friction. This means the tappet rubs against the cam lobe, and with the increase in fuel pressure, this surface endures additional load. Consequently, the oil film breaks down, causing direct contact between the factory tappet and the cam lobe, which leads to excessive wear due to increased friction and heat. This results in metal debris filling the engine, often damaging the oil pump and causing complete engine failure.
The key to our improved kit lies in rolling friction. The piston that reciprocates on the cam lobe, with the installation of a cylindrical bearing, rolls smoothly, significantly reducing friction and heat. This also provides a slight increase in power due to reduced friction, but more importantly, it ensures long-term durability of the assembly.
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
The body is made from forged aluminum 6026 T-6 EUROPAL in a single machining phase on our 5-axis CNC lathe, ensuring perpendicularity and optimal fit between the cylinder and piston, while also reducing surface roughness.
A key advantage of our product is the anodized coating, which hardens the aluminum surface while significantly reducing the friction coefficient between the piston and the body at high engine speeds, minimizing piston bounce. Additionally, the anodized coating protects the body from oxidation over the long term, providing shine, aesthetics, and color within the engine bay.
The cam lobe is made of high-strength steel and undergoes heat treatment for maximum hardness and durability. Our lobe is not the same as the factory one; it has a longer stroke to increase the fuel pump’s flow.
There are two critical factors in increasing the pump’s flow: the diameter of the piston and the stroke. We have designed the lobe to achieve up to 28% more flow with the same piston, which is crucial for larger turbochargers such as the K04064 and some hybrid turbos, all thanks to the increased stroke.
Factory stroke: 4.5mm – RTMG Performance lobe stroke: 5.7mm.
