As most of you know, turbos expel an immense amount of radiant heat. This heat only adds to the already sweltering under-hood engine temps derived from normal engine operation. Containing said turbo heat through insulation is key in the pursuit of lower intake temps, increased efficiency, and improved component life.
Design innovation keeps the heat of the exhaust gases contained within the hot side of the turbocharger, away from the cool side and the intake path. More oxygen per unit volume reaches the engine, therefore giving more power.

The blanket can become damaged if it is removed and reinstalled after being exposed to engine heat.
